A fellow in Austria reported to me that ALF Enterprises (in Washington State, USA) wanted US$41 to ship this antenna! I assume this included the price of the antenna. There must be a Euro/UK source...! ALF has been very reliable to me, except that their lead time made my own WR-3 lead time burgeon to 2 months shipping time when I formerlly included teh antenna with shipments - people were waiting to long, therefore, I was forced to speed things up by requesting people order this antenna separately, so I could ship WR-3 within 2-3 weeks! =================================================================== 4) http://www.grove-ent.com Grove Enterprises - does not sell the Smiley Antenna Superstick II BNC-base 5/8 telescoping-whip antenna, and I am not sure of what kind of BNC- antenna for scanner reception that they have that will work. Back in Feb 03, I found this out:
(FEB 03 info:) GroveEnterprises, Inc. in North Carolina, USA: : Grove sells (for US$14.95 plus shipping cost) a 6 to approx. 30-inch tepescoping whip that would seem to work good with the WR-3 except for it being shorter than the Firestick II. I've not tested out this antenna that also swivels, but it would work for its intended application for handheld scanners and two-way radio units that use a BNC jack, and so if you have such radios, it would work great and also double as your WR-3 antenna.
=============================================================== 5) http://www.strongsignals.net/access/content/antenna.html Great Web source for antenna information of all types - long listings of websites and antenna information. ============================================================= 6) I think that Amateur Radio HT antenna sites/sellers (Larson antennas, etc.) sell 1/2 or 5/8 wave Handi-Talkie (HT) antennas. - THEY MUST ALL HAVE SERIES-ONLY LOADING/TUNING COILS - NO CAPACITANCE NOR SHUNTING BETWEEN GROUND THE HOT WILL WORK!! -------------------------------------------------------------- 7) Also, Radio SHack for years sold a telescoping whip w NO coil in it - now, they sell only one with the ittle loading coil in the center - this antenna works with the WR03 - is about maybe 27 inches long, but not nearly as good as the Superstick II 5/8 wave antenna. ================================================================ EUROPEAN ANTENNA SUPPLIER INFORMATION IN TODAY, 03 SEPT. 03 Thanks Hannes!! I already searched for a suitable BNC antenna a while ago, didn't find anything, but now I have been lucky it seems :-) http://www.funkshop.de/shop/p94.html (length: ~ 50 inch) I just wonder about the coil(?) at the end of the antenna. Will your receiver work with this aswell ? I'm waiting for your reply - if you think this antenna is good, we have a deal for the receiver :-) Thank you very much again, Hannes / Austria. -- +~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ | Captain's Universe www.captain.at | | Mars Base dot Net www.marsbase.net | | Bryophyllum Plants www.bryophyllum.com | | JupiterRadio Astro www.jupiterradio.com | | Fossils in Austria www.fossils.captain.at | +~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ >>>>more info: 09 Sept. I had already 2 replies of my inquiry from funkshop.de who has a BNC-antenna, but my questions are still unanswered. So I can't recommend this vendor. But I found another source in Germany who sells a very similar antenna like the Firestik. http://www.wimo.de/verteiler.htm?s71_d.htm (scroll down the frame to about the half page) The length is about 45 inch. I keep you posted about their reply to my inquiry and if they're worth doing business with. All the best, Hannes. ------------------------------------------------------------------ THIS TEXT FILE WILL GROW AS I RECEIVE MORE INFO. STEVE McGREEVY, 10 SEPT. 2003 please e-mail me (http://www.auroralchorus.com/contact.html) if you have info that will help here - especially pertaining to EUROPE/UK/IRL. Thanks! ----------------
